ROLE: Technical Producer — Audio Video Control Lighting (AVCL) & Location-Based Entertainment (LBE)
REPORTS INTO: Director of Technical Production
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Freelance / Contract
What is a Technical Producer — AVCL & LBE at salt:
The Technical Producer — AVCL & LBE is Salt’s primary project lead on attraction-scale, systems-heavy engagements in the themed entertainment, location-based entertainment, and immersive experience space. This role manages the full technical lifecycle — from blue sky concept through AVCL systems design coordination, vendor and integrator management, installation oversight, commissioning, and handover — ensuring every project is delivered on time, on budget, and operationally ready on opening day.
This is not a show-floor execution role, it is a project ownership role. The Technical Producer — AVCL & LBE sits between Salt’s creative vision and the engineers, integrators, and specialists who bring that vision to life. They protect the project’s technical integrity at every stage, direct specialists with credibility, and serve as a trusted technical partner to owner-operators and creative agencies alike. This role is deployed on projects at the intersection of technology and storytelling world-class theme park attractions, museum experiences, brand environments, and immersive installations where systems are permanent, complex, and mission-critical.
Job Responsibilities:
Project Leadership & Lifecycle Management
- Serve as Salt's primary technical lead and project manager on all assigned AVCL and LBE engagements, owning the full lifecycle from concept through post-opening hypercare
- Develop and manage detailed project plans including scope, schedule, budget, technical deliverables, and vendor coordination across Audio, Video, Control, and Lighting disciplines
- Identify and mitigate technical and schedule risks proactively across all project phases, surfacing issues early with clear resolution paths
- Track costs, manage change orders, and report on financial performance and margin accountability throughout the project
- Serve as Salt's trusted technical partner to clients from early ideation through sustaining engineering and future refresh planning
Systems Design & Technical Documentation
- Oversee AVCL systems design from concept through detailed design, coordinating with engineers and designers to ensure deliverables meet project requirements and creative intent
- Review and manage AVCL documentation packages across all project phases — including AV drawing packages, wiring schematics, CAD/BIM drawings, equipment schedules, cable schedules, equipment elevations, and system architecture diagrams — for accuracy and completeness
- Oversee development and review of Interface Control Documents (ICD), Reflected Ceiling Plans, signal flow diagrams, and networking/cybersecurity methodology statements
- Manage and track facility inputs, site readiness assessments, spares lists, and availability forecasting documents across all design phases
- Lead development of Theory of Operations documentation and ensure final as-built documentation packages are complete and accurate at handover
Vendor, Integrator & Procurement Management
- Source, contract, negotiate, and manage vendors, systems integrators, and technical subcontractors across all AVCL scopes; lead RFPs when required
- Develop and manage procurement strategies including equipment procurement timelines, spares planning, and long-lead item forecasting
- Conduct and oversee vendor shop reviews, prototype reviews, and technology validation sessions to confirm readiness before production commitment
- Coordinate Proof of Technology (POT) efforts for high-risk technical scope, managing test planning, execution, and results documentation
Testing, Commissioning & Acceptance
- Plan and manage acceptance testing — including formal test documentation, witness coordination, sign-off, and remediation tracking for any failed items prior to equipment release
- Lead on-site acceptance testing across all show systems following installation, verifying that all technical systems have been installed and are functioning to designed specifications before operational handover
- Oversee extended operational testing to validate system stability and identify faults under sustained load conditions prior to opening
- Lead end-to-end commissioning activities: system testing, advanced programming, show control automation, audio tuning, and final system acceptance
Handover, Post-Opening & Sustaining Operations
- Ensure systems are fully commissioned, documented, and operationally ready on opening day, including delivery of operations training for client teams
- Manage punch list completion and post-opening hypercare, tracking all open items through resolution
- Oversee delivery of complete final documentation packages including as-built drawings, O&M manuals with troubleshooting guides, final ICD, Theory of Operations, final spares list with sourcing information, and all show systems configuration and restore files
Client Partnership & Creative Collaboration
- Participate in client presentations, design reviews, and technical pitches — communicating complex systems clearly to non-technical audiences
- Collaborate with creative directors, scenic designers, and production teams to ensure technical and creative alignment throughout
- Contribute to technical proposals, feasibility assessments, and new project scoping in support of business development
Team Leadership & Standards
- Mentor junior technical staff and contribute to Salt's AVCL project workflows, documentation standards, and internal technical capabilities
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices across themed entertainment, LBE, show control, and AVCL systems
- Proficiency in CAD or Vectorworks required; proficient in Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides)
- Domestic and international travel required; availability for on-site work during installation and commissioning phases
Requirements
7+ years of experience in technical project management, AVCL systems delivery, or systems integration within themed entertainment, LBE, attractions, or permanent installation environments
Proven experience leading end-to-end AVCL project delivery including systems coordination, vendor management, installation oversight, and commissioning
Hands-on technical knowledge across at least two AVCL disciplines (Audio, Video, Show Control, Lighting, Rigging, or IT/IoT Networks), with the credibility to direct and evaluate vendors and integration teams
Strong project management and organizational skills — able to manage multiple concurrent workstreams, budgets, and stakeholder relationships simultaneously
Experience managing and reviewing professional AVCL documentation including drawings, equipment schedules, signal flow diagrams, and commissioning plans
Excellent client-facing communication skills — able to present technical content clearly and build trusted relationships with owner-operators and creative partners
Proficiency in CAD or Vectorworks (required); proficient in Google Workspace
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally; availability for extended on-site periods as required
