Summary

We are looking for a Freelance Technical Writer to support project-based work by building clear, user-friendly in-app guides for a defense-sector client (this is short, focused project work). Each engagement lasts approximately 3 weeks to produce a set of guides, with the possibility of returning for future sets as new work arises. It is a great fit for a writer who likes variety, can move quickly on a defined scope, and enjoys writing for real end-users rather than developers.

Responsibilities

• Write clear, instructional in-app user guides that help end users understand and use new features.
• Translate technical or functional information into simple, accessible language for a non-technical audience.
• Collaborate on voice and tone to make sure guides feel consistent and easy to follow.
• Turn around a complete set of guides within a focused, several-week project window.
• Make yourself available for brief review calls and check-ins during the project.

Requirements

• Experience as a Technical Writer and a portfolio demonstrating this work (this is the most important requirement).
• Expertise in writing for end users; clear, plain-language instructional content, not documentation for developers.
• Comfortable working independently on a defined project timeline.
• Availability during business hours for occasional review calls and short check-ins (this is not a fixed 8-to-5 schedule).
• Must be based in the U.S. and not currently working on an active project for any other branch of the U.S. Military.
• Willingness to sign an NDA upon being hired for this engagement.
