Freight Specialist

The Freight Specialist is responsible for coordinating and supporting freight shipments to ensure orders are transported accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. This position works closely with carriers, warehouse teams, customers, and internal operations to manage freight movement, resolve shipping issues, and maintain accurate shipment documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate freight shipments from order processing through final delivery.
• Schedule pickups and deliveries with freight carriers and transportation providers.
• Prepare and verify bills of lading, shipping labels, freight documents, and related paperwork.
• Select appropriate carriers and shipping methods based on shipment requirements.
• Track freight shipments and monitor delivery status.
• Communicate with carriers, customers, and internal teams regarding shipment updates, delays, and issues.
• Investigate and resolve freight discrepancies, damaged shipments, shortages, and delivery exceptions.
• Verify shipment weights, dimensions, quantities, addresses, and other critical freight information.
• Enter and maintain accurate shipment and freight information in company systems.
• Assist with freight quotes, rates, and transportation costs as needed.
• Ensure shipments comply with company procedures and carrier requirements.
• Coordinate with warehouse and fulfillment teams to ensure freight is properly prepared and staged for pickup.
• Maintain accurate records of shipments, carrier communications, and freight-related issues.
• Help identify opportunities to improve freight efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
• Follow all company safety, quality, and operational procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in freight, logistics, shipping/receiving, transportation, warehouse operations, or fulfillment preferred.
• Familiarity with freight carriers, bills of lading, shipment tracking, and transportation processes is a plus.
• Basic computer skills and experience with WMS, TMS, ERP, or shipping systems preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively with carriers, warehouse personnel, customers, and internal teams.
