Job DetailsJob Title: Front Desk Receptionist
Location: Fountain Valley (on-site; travel to satellite clinics as needed)
Employment Type: Full time
Base Salary Range: $21.00 to $23.00 per hour (exact compensation may vary based on skills, education, certifications, experience, and location)
Position Summary
The Front Desk Receptionist greets patients, answers telephone calls, gathers and enters patient data, collects payments, schedules visits, obtains records, and handles a variety of administrative tasks. This role supports the front office and is the first point of contact between the patient and the practice.
Essential Functions
This reflects management's definition of essential functions and does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Duties may be assigned or reassigned at any time, with reasonable accommodations.
Daily
- Review and triage the schedule
- Collect and enter patient demographic information in the EHR/practice management system when changed
- Process new patient packets
- Verify for each patient daily: insurance, home address, phone number, emergency contact, preferred pharmacy and practice pharmacy, advance directives (dated current year), and most recent insurance card scan
- Review the co-pay sheet and collect required payments throughout the day
- Prepare patient identification wristbands
- Warmly greet patients, check them in, and room them appropriately
- Answer phones, check voicemails, and monitor text messages
- Monitor all communication channels: group and task inboxes, patient portal messages, email, Microsoft Teams, website inquiries, faxes, and others
- Help coordinate patient care by contacting specialists, imaging centers, and external facilities, and document accurately
- Schedule, reschedule, and cancel visits; call back patients who miss appointments and attempt to reschedule cancellations and no-shows the same day
- Assist with patient forms (disability, FMLA, etc.)
- Keep your station clean and ensure no protected health information is left out
- Update and move Saturday orders
- Prepare charts, including labs and medical records
- Log out of all systems and computers before the end of shift
Weekly
- Prepare mail and co-pays for pick-up, if applicable
Ongoing
- Complete assigned training on time
Key Competencies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Exceptional assessment, critical thinking, and customer service skills
- Emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses
- Ability to seek out resources independently and work collaboratively
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current CPR certification
- Basic computer knowledge
- Previous oncology/hematology experience (preferred)
Additional Requirements
- Able to sit or stand for long periods, with occasional walking
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to travel to satellite clinics when necessary
- Willing and able to lift up to 25 pounds
