This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12-month period.

The typical number of hours for this position will not exceed 24 hours/week.

  • AZDPS/FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Check
  • Ability to obtain a CPR/First-Aid Certification within 90 days

ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Front Desk Recreation Worker provides front-line customer service and operational support at City of Tucson Parks and Recreation facilities. The position assists customers in person and by telephone; processes registrations, memberships, reservations, and payments; checks out equipment; provides information regarding programs and facilities; assists with recreation programs, rentals, and special events; and helps maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming recreation center. Work includes regular use of computers, point-of-sale and recreation management systems and requires employees to follow established cash-handling, customer service, safety and facility procedures.

Work is performed under the direction of a Recreation Program Coordinator or designee. This position does not supervise employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides front-line customer service in person and by telephone. Greets customers, answers questions regarding facilities, programs, classes, memberships, fees, schedules, and policies, and directs customers to appropriate resources. Processes program registrations, memberships, facility reservations, daily admissions, and other transactions using recreation management and point-of-sale systems. Accepts and accurately processes payments in accordance with City procedures. Checks equipment in and out and maintains appropriate records. Assists customers with accounts and registrations and resolves routine customer concerns or refers issues to appropriate staff. Conducts weight/fitness room orientations or certifications when assigned and trained.
  • Assists with recreation programs, camps, classes, special events, and other center activities as assigned. Assists with participant check-in, attendance, activity setup and breakdown, equipment and supplies, room preparation and basic program support. Provides coverage for programs and operational areas based on facility needs. May assist with community events, outreach activities, and other Parks and Recreation programs at various locations.
  • Maintains clean, safe, and organized public and staff areas. Performs routine cleaning such as wiping counters, tables, and recreation/fitness equipment, removing trash, organizing equipment and supplies, and setting up or breaking down rooms and activity areas. Identifies and reports facility deficiencies, damage, safety hazards, and maintenance needs to appropriate staff.
  • Monitors facility and program areas and assists with enforcement of City and Parks and Recreation rules, policies, and procedures. Provides customers with information regarding facility expectations and addresses routine rule violations using appropriate customer-service techniques. Reports accidents, incidents, injuries, suspicious activity, facility damage, and hazardous conditions to appropriate staff. Completes required incident or accident documentation as directed and contacts supervisory or emergency personnel when appropriate.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions

Work locations and schedules may vary based on operational needs, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Some exposure to light physical or environmental conditions (noise, dust, weather, etc.).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Less than High School

Work Experience:

Three (3) full months of employment or volunteer experience involving customer contact

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

Ability to lift 25lbs.

Six (6) months of customer service experience in a recreation, community center, retail, hospitality or similar public-facing environment.

Experience using computers, point-of-sale systems, registration/reservation software or other customer management systems.

Experience processing payments or performing cash-handling duties.

Experience assisting with recreation programs, youth programs, senior programs, special events or community activities.

Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills desirable where operationally beneficial.
