One of the main functions of this position is to serve as a point of contact for patients before and after their appointment and offer them friendly and prompt assistance while coordinating the patient's care.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary job function required of our Front Desk/PSR includes the following, but not limited to:Greet patients professionally both in person and on the phoneOpen the office each morning and ensure the waiting room is presentable and tidy; serve as a backup when needed for the closing of the office at the end of the dayDemonstrate patience and understanding when explaining intake paperwork and registration information, verify and collect insurance information and co-payments, ensure demographics and HIPPA forms are current; properly scan the correct information into the patient's chart. Manage co-pay batch for both systems and balance the cash drawer at the end of the dayProvide each patient with the "review of systems form" for completionAnswer incoming calls and properly route them to the appropriate individual that can address their question/issue; regularly check for voicemail messages and return calls within 24 hoursDistribute incoming faxes throughout the day, as appropriateUtilize our EHR system (EPIC) to properly alert (tagging) our providers upon patient arrivalOptimize provider schedules and patient satisfaction with efficient schedulingRespond timely to email and voicemail messages and make updates to that day's schedule, as appropriateContact providers about any cancellations or last-minute appointments scheduled, as appropriateMaintain inventory patient communication/education information (i.e. registration forms, new patient packets, business cards, MD bio cards, etc.) Notify and promote the patient portal with patientsMaintain patient confidentiality to ensure compliance with HIPAA policies and proceduresServe as a back-up to Check-out PSRBe a team player: Identify how you might assist fellow team members during daily operations to ensure a smooth flow of clinic hoursAlways represent SDCC and its staff and Providers in a professional, courteous, and respectful manager on or off propertyPerform other duties as assigned or requestedCORE COMPETENCIES AND EXPECTATIONS: A successful Front Office /PSR will possess the necessary core competencies and meet the general expectations, such as:Practice patient-focused careEffective communication skills to converse clearly over the telephone and in personExceptional organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities while remaining professional and calmAttention to detail to maintain a high-volume level of accuracy; ability to work independently and perform functions with minimal supervision; be self-directed; flexible, and prioritizeTechnological skills, such as using word processing and spreadsheet programs to track dataInterpersonal skills to interact positively with many diverse individualsBe punctual and maintain a positive attitude and a professional appearanceMedical software and/or medical terminology and knowledge of contracted insurance plans, a plusAbility to operate a multi-line telephone systemExcellent customer service skills and working knowledge of general office dutiesWorks well in an environment with firm deadlines; results oriented; ability to work independently and as part of a teamConsistently demonstrate and promote the values of respect, honesty, and dignity for all patients and SDCC team members.
