The role of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager is to establish, implement, and maintain the measures and systems to ensure our products are safe, meet regulatory requirements, specifications, and customer expectations. The individual must be an experienced manager with strong technical abilities and well-developed leadership skills. This role with serve as the site leader for Food Safety and Quality Programs and will be a member of the plant leadership team. The candidate must have a working knowledge of laboratory testing equipment, test methods, acidified food manufacturing, and a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties:

  • The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the Safety and Quality of products manufactured at the facility.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining food safety and quality management systems that meet regulatory, customer, and GFSI requirements.
  • Review, revise, or implement and monitor Food Safety Plans/ HACCP program, SSOP, GMP, and other Quality Assurance and Food Safety programs.
  • As SQF practitioner, oversee the implementation and maintenance of the SQF Safe Quality Foods program.
  • Lead certification audits for a successful outcome.
  • Oversee sanitation and pest control activities. Develop collaborative relationships with 3rd party vendors and ensure deficiencies are corrected by responsible parties.
  • Develop a deep understanding of manufacturing operations to determine the critical processes and controls to produce safe and quality products.
  • Track, report, and review Food Safety and Quality KPIs. Lead initiatives to continuously improve quality performance.
  • Conduct effective root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Responsible for consumer complaints and quality issue resolution.
  • Collaborate on the introduction of changes to current or new products and processes to ensure the safety and quality of products.
  • Drive a continuous mindset for the FSQA department. Lead continuous improvement activities for the function. This includes, but is not limited to, updated program execution and enhancement, adoption of technology, improved processes, and identifying efficiencies for the department or plant.
  • Lead food safety and quality training efforts and drive a strong food safety culture at the facility.
  • Lead and develop the site team of food safety and quality employees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant Food Safety & Quality Assurance experience required from the food/beverage industry.
  • Previous people management experience required
  • Strong knowledge in food safety/hazard analysis and preventive controls (process preventive controls as well as sanitation, allergen and supply chain, preventive controls).
  • Experience in pest control, cleaning and sanitation and pest control
  • Experience with FDA Acidified Foods standards
  • Experience in Microbiological and Analytical methods and laboratory operations
  • Experienced with FDA, USDA, and other applicable regulations
  • SQF practitioner (or equivalent GFSI Certification); HACCP and PCQI certification required
  • Better Process Control School (as applicable for those facilities manufacturing LACF and acidified foods) or experience in microbial control process validations.
