Reporting to the Dean of the Divinity School, this position teaches three courses in theology, ethics, and

interdisciplinary studies. The successful candidate will be competent in theology, religious ethics, gender,

women, and culture. The candidate will demonstrate scholarly depth and productivity, a thorough understanding

of women's studies, the Black Church, and, more broadly, ethical issues facing the changing landscape of

religious life in America and around the world. The successful candidate will also help plan and facilitate the

Divinity School's annual conferences and serve on Divinity School- and university-related committees.

Essential Job Functions:

Through a demonstrated commitment to the University's mission and goals, effectively teaches graduate-level students in theology, ethics, and interdisciplinary studies.

Actively engages in planning, developing and improving curriculum offerings.

Write and research, and engage in scholarship in the area of theology, ethics, and interdisciplinary studies.

Directs instructional activities that encourage students to improve critical thinking and problem-solving

skills, to increase motivation, to enhance a positive self-image, and to clarify their values.

Teach and conduct research in the area of theology, ethics, and interdisciplinary studies.

Assist with the Field education program of the Divinity school.

Teaches the course in accordance with the course syllabus.

Informs students of the course objectives and requirements, explains the grading system and attendance

policy, discusses academic integrity, and provides a bibliography of suggested readings.

As applicable to the graduate program, ensures that coursework:

o Requires students to analyze, explore, question, reconsider, and synthesize old and new

knowledge and skills.

o Relates to currently accepted practices within the discipline.

o Requires students to engage in research and to confront the diversity of views in the field of

study.

Effectively advises students in applicable academic subject area(s).

Will hold regular office hours, coordinate regular prayer services and provide spiritual direction and

inspiration for the Shaw University campus.

Assist in the recruitment of students for the Master of Divinity and Master of Christian Education

programs.

All other related duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

PhD in Religion, Theology, or Christian Ethics

Demonstrated scholarly productivity and research in the field of study.

Minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field.

Demonstrated success teaching at the graduate level.

Candidates with teaching experience and expertise in an additional area also offered in the assigned

department is highly desired.

Knowledge and experience in using instructional technology.

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally), bending, and carrying.

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
