FT Grounds Keeper/Driver

Luther Park Community is a non-profit Senior Living facility that has been dedicated to providing quality services for mature Iowans in its beautifully landscaped community in Des Moines since 1914. We currently have a unique, full-time opportunity for someone who loves variety in their daily responsibilities, loves working outdoors, performing basic maintenance duties and interacting with our residents while driving them to scheduled destinations. The main responsibilities of this position will be maintaining the campus grounds and assisting the maintenance technicians. This position will participate in the on-call rotation. Driving responsibilities will be on an as needed basis.

Groundskeeper Responsibilities:

Planting and maintaining plants and shrubs around the campus

Trim weeds, prune trees, rake leaves and general grounds upkeep

Maintain parking lots and sidewalks

Litter removal

Snow removal 

Maintenance Responsibilities:

Assist technicians when needed with light plumbing, electrical and other maintenance duties

Help complete resident work orders

Maintain office, shop, storage and mechanical areas

Provide weekend and after-hour building coverage on an on-call basis

Driver Responsibilities:

Ability to drive a bus and other vehicles while meeting Federal and State regulations

Ability to assist passengers while maintaining a high level of safety

Strong communication and time-managements skills

Compassion for others

Exceptional customer service skills

Requirements:

High school diploma or GED

Must read, write, speak and comprehend the English language

Basic understanding of maintenance practices and procedure in facility role, preferably in health care

Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing or HVAC systems

Familiarity with tools and equipment used in maintenance tasks

Must be able to work under all types of weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, etc.)

Basic computer skills for logging maintenance activities

Excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions

Dependable and punctual with strong work ethic

Positive attitude and willingness to assist others

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Must have chauffer’s license, CDL or ability to get within 30 days of hire

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
