Summary of Job

Maintain all City parks and open space, to ensure safe recreation. To maintain all park equipment and implement capital projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain safety in the parks and around all City owned properties
  • Maintain all park buildings and property, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing
  • Maintain the beautification of parks and other City-owned properties by performing such duties as refuse pickup, lawn care and landscaping
  • Maintain and prepare/groom ball fields for various league activities
  • Perform snow removal
  • Inspect and maintain all playground equipment, shelters, park shop, ice rink, trails, etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all park vehicles and small equipment
  • Complete capital project construction such as carpentry, concrete work, plumbing and landscaping

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and respond to mail, electronic communications, phone calls, and personal visits
  • Initiate safe work practices
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions
  • Train new staff when required
  • Communicate with local groups and school district regularly
  • Assist with special event setup
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications, Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of hand tools, riding lawn mower, gas powered trimmers, skid steer, utility vehicles, tractor, broom and blower.
  • Ability to work weekends/holidays, as needed.
  • Ability to maintain CDL License.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, Parks & Recreation Director, local groups and school district.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as computer, telephone, cell phone, portable radio.
  • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with co-workers, City employees and the general public.

Education, Experience, Licenses, Additional Info

Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • One to three years' experience in related field
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license with a CDL (or the ability to obtain within first year), and no limitations affecting employment
  • Must be trained in CPR and first aid (or the ability to obtain within first year)

Work is performed in both an indoor and outdoor setting; and requires hand-eye coordination necessary to operate radios and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms for approximately two to four hours per shift. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit and/or stoop for more than six hours at a time; and kneel, crouch or crawl and smell. Must be able to climb stairs/ladders (including in emergencies) for one hour or more per shift. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds for more than six hours at a time. Occasionally may be required to carry/lift up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee occasionally works in dirt, dust, noise, odors, fumes, darkness, and vibrations; seasonally may work in heat, extreme cold, fumes, wetness/humidity, or sudden temperature changes. May occasionally work around electrical, fire, mechanical or chemical hazards, with heights above 10 feet and with moving vehicles/traffic. The employee must be available and present for work as scheduled. The employee must perform all functions of the job safely and efficiently at all times in compliance with all safety regulations and policies for the safety and welfare of the employee, co-workers, and the public.
