RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAJOR DUTIES:
1. Evaluate and document evaluations of referred residents as related to Respiratory Therapy
services in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
2. Provide appropriate treatment and education to resident and/or caregiver to help residents
maintain or attain the highest level of respiratory function possible within the confines of his/her
physical condition.
3. Operate respiratory therapy equipment safely and effectively and report any malfunctions to
the appropriate parties for resolution.
4. Maintain timely and accurate resident reports as required by federal, state and local regulatory
agencies and third-party payers.
5. Meets patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by conducting pulmonary function
tests; assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining respiratory therapy
treatment plans in consultation with physicians and by prescription.
6. Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and supports life by administering inhalants; operating
mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control
systems, and aerosol generators.
7. Administers respiratory therapy treatments; assisting with breathing exercises; monitoring
physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood
chemistry changes; directing treatments given by aides, technicians and assistants.
8. Evaluates effects of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, noting, and evaluating
patient's progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.
9. Participate in the Inter-Disciplinary Team meetings as required to ensure quality care for the
residents involved.
10.Observe infection control procedures.
11.Ensure the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process is followed in accordance to State
& Federal Guidelines.
12.Follow Residents’ Rights policies at all times.
13.Adhere to all facility policies & procedures and ensure they are adhered to by all responsible
parties and carry out disciplinary action for non-compliance as appropriate.
14.Ensure adherence to the Corporate Integrity Program and the Performance Expectations at all
times.
15.Perform other related duties as directed by the Director of Nursing and/or person of authority.
