Fuel Equipment Design Engineer – Natural Gas & Combustion Systems

We’re looking for a Fuel Equipment Design Engineer to take ownership of the design and execution of natural gas delivery and combustion systems for industrial and utility-scale boiler projects. This role sits at the center of fuel system engineering, working on low NOx combustion technology for wall-fired and T-fired boilers.

You’ll be leading projects from concept through commissioning, working closely with internal teams, customers, and field service groups to deliver safe, efficient, and performance-driven fuel systems.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead engineering design for natural gas delivery systems, including development of P&IDs and system layouts
  • Design and select equipment such as gas filtration units, pressure reduction skids, flow control systems, burners, and auxiliary components
  • Own technical execution for gas-fired boiler projects and develop deep expertise in combustion and fuel system design
  • Support proposals and sales efforts with technical input, customer presentations, and project estimates
  • Develop field test procedures and support commissioning, startup, and performance testing activities
  • Lead or support burner tuning and emissions optimization during field operations
  • Create and maintain engineering standards for system sizing, performance, and design consistency
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, vendors, and customer engineering groups to ensure design accuracy, compliance, and on-time delivery
  • Present technical work at industry events and engage with the broader combustion and power generation community

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • 8+ years of experience in gas systems, combustion systems, or related industrial/utility engineering work
  • Strong background in natural gas systems (filtration, pressure reduction, flow control, heating, etc.)
  • Experience with boiler combustion systems (wall-fired and/or T-fired strongly preferred)
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31 piping codes and NFPA standards
  • Familiarity with equipment selection, hydraulic analysis, and system design
  • Exposure to field commissioning, startup, or operations is a strong plus
  • CFD experience is a bonus, but not required
  • PE license preferred (or willingness to pursue)
  • Must be comfortable with occasional domestic and international travel
