Job Title: Fuel Fabrication Operations Technician
Location: Everett, WA
Type: Contract, 12-months (extension possible)
Compensation: $28.00 - $52.00 per hour
Contractor Work Model: Onsite – onsite

Overview:
This Operations Technician supports R&D testing by operating and maintaining experimental systems and lab infrastructure in a radiological environment. The role monitors and adjusts key parameters (temperature, pressure, flow), helps assemble/modify equipment (piping, vessels, instrumentation), performs preventive/corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical components, troubleshoots issues, and documents test results while following strict safety and quality procedures (including LOTO).

Responsibilities:

  • Operate experimental systems, engineering test equipment, and supporting laboratory infrastructure in support of research and development activities.
  • Monitor and control operating parameters including temperature, pressure, flow, and system levels to maintain safe and effective test conditions.
  • Start, stop, and adjust mechanical and electrical equipment as required during experimental operations.
  • Assist with the fabrication, assembly, installation, and modification of experimental systems, piping, vessels, instrumentation, and prototype equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on laboratory equipment including pumps, motors, heaters, sensors, and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues and support repair activities.
  • Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate performance of components, assemblies, and systems under simulated operating conditions.
  • Collect operational data, record test results, and maintain accurate laboratory and operational documentation.
  • Support engineers and scientists in the development, testing, and refinement of experimental systems and procedures.
  • Perform equipment inspections, system pressure checks, leak testing, and energy isolation procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO).
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation to support equipment assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain laboratory spaces, tools, and equipment in an organized and safe working condition.
  • Follow company safety procedures, laboratory protocols, and quality assurance requirements.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree or post-secondary technical training in instrumentation, electronics, mechanical technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in industrial operations, laboratory testing, mechanical maintenance, or technical field support.
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, valves, piping systems, and related industrial components.
  • Experience working with electrical systems up to 480 VAC and familiarity with diagnostic tools such as multimeters and basic electrical test equipment.
  • Experience with radioactive material handling.
  • Understanding of basic process instrumentation including temperature, pressure, and flow measurement devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, piping diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Mechanical assembly skills and proficiency using standard hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Ability to accurately record operational or laboratory data and maintain clear technical documentation.
  • Basic computer proficiency including word processing, spreadsheets, and software used for equipment monitoring or data acquisition.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary technical teams.
