Fuel Facilities Technician

Description Benefits Questions Position Information

This classification supports both field and office-based functions related to fuel site operations, including equipment monitoring, inventory tracking, and recordkeeping.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures maintenance and daily operation of fueling sites; inspects fuel sites and fueling equipment; ensures proper operation of fueling equipment; performs leak detection tests; ensures compliance with environmental regulations; and performs general servicing and repair tasks for pumps, dispensers and air compressors, as needed.
  • Maintains fuel levels at fueling sites: checks fuel levels; coordinates the ordering and receipt of incoming fuel; and maintains records and documentation regarding fuel consumption, purchase orders, and inventory.
  • Coordinates large and complex maintenance and repairs with vendors: contacts vendors regarding needed maintenance and repairs; schedules appointments; obtains quotes; monitors work in progress and inspects completed work; and processes related invoices and maintains related documentation.
  • Operates and maintains County vehicle: conducts pre- and post-trip inspections; fuels trucks; loads and secures materials; reports all problems or necessary repairs to appropriate personnel immediately; and completes and maintains inspection, gas usage, and other associated documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in inventory management, data entry, or a related administrative or operational support role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating and maintaining fuel sites, along with the understanding of environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience using or supporting the hardware and software of a fuel control system.
  • Experience operating a small fuel truck and dispensing product to generators and small tanks.
  • Experience coordinating vendor services or working in a logistics or facilities support environment is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License.

Physical Abilities Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).

  • Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.
  • Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
