About the Role

We're seeking a skilled Full stack/Backend Engineer to support a healthcare technology platform on a short-term, 2-month contract. You'll collaborate with product and clinical teams to deliver secure, high-performance backend services that meet healthcare compliance standards. The ideal candidate has experience building robust APIs, managing AWS infrastructure, and ensuring HIPAA-compliant data workflows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and resolve bugs across the stack, ensuring system stability and performance.
  • Collaborate with clinical and product teams to validate business logic and workflow accuracy.
  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Node.js (NestJS) and Spring Boot.
  • Integrate and secure RESTful APIs using OAuth2, JWT, and SMART on FHIR.
  • Maintain Python modules supporting LLM/NLP-powered features.
  • Implement microservices and event-driven architectures using AWS (EventBridge, Cognito, Lambda, etc.).
  • Manage infrastructure with Terraform and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
  • Work with Swagger/OpenAPI documentation for API integration.
  • Ensure data protection and compliance by implementing encryption for data at rest and in transit in line with HIPAA and other healthcare standards.
Collaboration & Ownership
  • Contribute to architecture design and security reviews, promoting best practices in encryption, access control, and resiliency.
  • Collaborate on platform security and infrastructure design to enhance monitoring, observability, and incident response.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript for backend systems.
  • 3+ years of experience developing and maintaining Node.js and Java APIs.
  • Proven experience with AWS infrastructure and Terraform (IaC).
  • Hands-on experience implementing and securing RESTful APIs using OAuth2, JWT, and related protocols.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
  • Knowledge of encryption, network security, and key management principles.
  • Experience in healthcare technology, EHR/EMR integration, or other regulated domains.
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and distributed systems.
  • Experience with observability frameworks and automated testing.
  • Exposure to API performance benchmarking.
  • Prior experience working in small, agile teams, owning infrastructure or security modules end-to-end.
