Build the AI software that changes how a clinical stage biopharma company plans and runs its trials.
Our client is a well funded, clinical stage biopharmaceutical company advancing a portfolio of medicines for serious diseases. Its clinical development organization is building its own AI enabled applications on AWS to turn slow, manual clinical operations work into software. The first solutions are live and in use, and a long roadmap of new ones is funded and ready to be built.
This is a hands on engineering engagement, not a strategy, architecture, or management role. You will take assigned solutions from requirements to working product: the data pipelines behind them, the LLM powered logic at their core, the APIs, and the screens clinical teams use every day. Python is the primary language. You will integrate and orchestrate existing AI models, not train new ones, and you are encouraged to use modern AI coding tools to move quickly. Success in this engagement comes down to three things: understanding healthcare data, working independently, and shipping.
*This is a 12 month contract engagement to start, at 40 hours per week, with potential for extension.
This list represents the major duties of the engagement and is not all inclusive. The contractor may be asked to perform related duties beyond those described here.
Application Development
Design, build, test, and release features across the full stack, including Python services, APIs, data layers, and the workflows and dashboards used by clinical development teams.
Own assigned solutions end to end, turning a business problem and a set of source data into a working, maintainable product with minimal day to day direction.
Extend live solutions with new modules in areas such as study budgeting, site identification, and feasibility, and stand up new solutions as the roadmap advances.
Use AI assisted development tools to increase speed while holding a high bar for code quality.
Data Integration and Pipelines
Build and maintain pipelines that pull together documents and datasets, such as study protocols, schedules of assessments, contracts, public trial registries, licensed trial intelligence data, and claims or real world data.
Normalize, validate, and reconcile data from inside and outside the company so every output can be traced back to where it came from.
Build automated checks that catch bad data before it reaches users.
Applied AI and LLM Engineering
Implement LLM powered workflows, including document extraction, retrieval augmented generation, structured generation, and ranking or scoring logic.
Integrate foundation models through cloud AI services, and build the evaluation steps and guardrails needed to keep outputs accurate and dependable.
Recommend the right tools for each solution, weighing accuracy, cost, and compliance.
Engineering Quality, Cloud, and Compliance
Deploy and run solutions on AWS using CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure as code.
Write code other engineers can pick up: tested, reviewed, documented, and under version control.
Build to the standards of a regulated environment, including 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, and GDPR, and keep a clear record of where data came from and how it was changed.
