Position:Full Time Accounting Specialist

Status: Full-time with benefits

Work Hours: Monday-Friday days, some evening and weekend requirements

Immediate Supervisors: Senior Director of Finance

 

Summary:

The Accounting Specialist is a key financial position within BGCNIC. This role is responsible for performing  and supporting many of the organization’s nonprofit financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable functions, grant transaction tracking, and financial reporting support. This role is  vital  in providing accurate and timely financial information to support decision-making. This role performs various financial tasks, including data entry, recordkeeping, financial transactions, and administrative duties. The ideal candidate possesses strong nonprofit financial acumen, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, an ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines, and a commitment to the mission and values of BGCNIC.

 

BGCNIC serves 3,000 children ages 5-18 at 39 sites across 6 Indiana Counties through  before and after-care programming, with a strong focus on social and emotional learning, college and workforce readiness, and academic enrichment to ensure every child has a chance to meet his or her potential.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Major responsibilities include:

 
  • Document preparation including but not limited to:  invoices, purchase orders, expense reports, and bank deposits.
  • Accurately record financial transactions in the organization's accounting systems and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Conduct timely data entry and coding of financial information, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established procedures.
  • Complete the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including vendor management, annual 1099’s, timely invoice processing, donor and other receipts processing.
  • Track Grant and restricted funds transactions, expense allocations, and provide support for detailed grant reporting.
  • Support the annual audit process by providing necessary financial documents and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Finance Director to ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.
  • Organize and maintain financial records, files, and documents.
  • Provide general support to the finance team and the organization and perform other duties as assigned.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: 

 
  • Associate’s (Bachelor’s preferred) degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • Minimum three years experience in a nonprofit finance or accounting role.

  • Expansive  knowledge of financial principles and accounting practices.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel and VLOOKUP) and Google Suites. Salesforce experience is a plus.

  • Extensive experience with CRM, financial, accounting, and payroll software systems (preferably Bloomerang, Sage Intacct, bill.com, Paycor).

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial recordkeeping.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task,  prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work well both independently and in a team.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing financial processes and technologies.

  • Passion for the mission of the nonprofit sector and a desire to contribute to positive social change.

Salary Range: 

$55,000 to $60,000 based on education and experience
