SEBRING LOCAL SCHOOL JOB DESCRIPTION: FULL-TIME AFTERNOON SHIFT CUSTODIAN Purpose Statement: The position of Custodian was established for the purpose of creating and maintaining an attractive, safe, and sanitary environment for all students, staff, and community members who utilize the facilities. Qualifications: A minimum of a High School Diploma, good health, demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities, or such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Physical Demands: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls (significant fine finger dexterity); and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, crouch, and/or crawl, reach about the head, and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb onto ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. This position requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, such as cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks. Occasionally, the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Responsibility: Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Job Requirements - Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks, with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial maintenance, including electrical cleaning equipment, common tools, etc., and adhering to safety practices. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods of industrial cleaning, safety practices, and procedures. ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; collate data; and consider several factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals, work with similar types of data, and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Some problem-solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation, and problem solving with equipment is moderate.
