Full Time Animal Keeper - Temporary

The Sacramento Zoo is seeking a temporary full-time Animal Keeper to join the Animal Care Department. This position will support either the Carnivore or Ungulate Section, depending on the successful candidate''s experience and qualifications.

This is a full-time temporary position expected to last approximately six months while covering an employee leave of absence. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience at an AZA-accredited institution, contribute to a dedicated animal care team, and make an immediate impact on animal welfare and husbandry operations.

This position is responsible for performing all duties related to the husbandry, care, welfare, and wellbeing of an exotic animal collection. The successful candidate will receive training and work primarily within either the Carnivore or Ungulate Section based on their existing skill set and experience. Candidates with demonstrated experience working with carnivores, ungulates, or both are encouraged to apply.

The Sacramento Zoological Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that manages the Sacramento Zoo.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively with team members under the direct supervision of Animal Care Supervisors, to support the planning, operation, and day-to-day activities of the assigned animal care section.
• Participate in departmental projects, initiatives, and operational duties that support the Sacramento Zoo's mission and help maintain accreditation with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
• Contribute to a positive team culture focused on animal wellbeing, visitor experience, and the overall success of the Animal Care team.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support the needs of the Animal Care Department and the zoo.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about animal care and committed to working collaboratively to support the wellbeing of the animals, the success of the team, and the mission of the Sacramento Zoo.

Experience Required

6-month FT or equivalent cumulative PT experience working with carnivores OR ungulates, at an AZA-accredited facility, including familiarity with AZA animal care standards.

Salary

$19-$21/hour
