I. Job Summary

The Technician IWSS is an essential team member of our Hospital Services team. The TM will be responsible for collecting and receiving waste from hospital personnel. Waste should be inspected for acceptance according to WMHS waste protocols. This team member will partner closely with their supervisor to ensure that all waste remains in compliance.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Separates waste streams into appropriate categories for treatment or disposal
  • Solid waste

  • Operates compactors and/or shredders as required
  • Unload waste from incoming vehicles. Separates non-autoclavable waste to be incinerated
  • Stage waste in area and/or properly stack waste for scanning in the Bio track system for proper recordkeeping purposes
  • Scan waste carts for radioactivity and other adverse materials
  • Load treatment equipment with waste for processing and/or properly package waste for transport off site. Operates RMW waste treatment equipment
  • Wash and decontaminate waste carts manually and/or operate tub wash unit insuring the wash unit is operating properly. Removes clean tubs from wash unit, inspects tubs and stacks for re-use
  • Decontaminates vehicles cargo-carrying portion, reloads assigned re-usable tubs and insures cargo-carrying portion of vehicle does not have free liquid on the floor
  • Make simple adjustment or repairs such as realigning belts, replacing grinder teeth and/or repairing containers, escalating major repair issues to mechanic
  • Maintains a clean environment through housekeeping program. Ensures spills cleaned up, floor is dry, and debris not on floor, etc., are addressed immediately
  • Greets hospital personnel in a professional and friendly manner

  • Perform collection services throughout the hospital
  • Interacts with patients and hospital staff in professional manner
  • Shift leader responsibilities as needed: i.e.: staffing, proper safety policies and programs are followed; complete shift required documentation; keep manager informed of any pertinent issues
  • Notifies management of waste flow issues on hospital floors
  • Assists management in scheduling collection and documenting locations
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
  • Position requires extensive lifting, walking, bending, and pushing. Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds and push and/or pull carts weighing as much as 500 pounds.

III. Qualifications

A. Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited) equivalent
  • 1 year of Experience, preferably in warehouse, environmental services or related field

This role is designated as safety sensitive and will require the successful candidate to strictly comply with all safety rules and protocols. The expected base pay range for this on-site position is $19.75 . This range represents

a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced

by a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, education, training, certifications,

qualifications, and work location
