Position: Full-Time Night Patient Care Technician, Senior

Department: Resource Pool

Location: UPMC Passavant

Shifts: Three 12-hour evening/overnight shifts. Hours may vary by unit.

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. In addition, Resource Pool staff are assigned to different units throughout the hospital and receive a 10% bonus on top of their base rate while active in the pool! Candidates must have at least 6 months of direct patient care experience to qualify for the night program. Those who qualify will receive an additional $2/hour on top of the current off-shift differential while meeting program requirements. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

  • Care Attendant: $18.19
  • Nursing Assistant: $18.59
  • Patient Care Technician: $18.99
  • Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced patient care under RN direction, including ADLs, procedures, therapies, and patient monitoring
  • Perform all core PCT competencies, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry, specimen collection, EKGs, bladder scans, dressings, catheter removal, and restraint application per protocol
  • Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring, including transport of cardiac monitored patients
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
  • Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
  • Document care accurately and complete clerical functions as needed
  • Support unit operations and quality initiatives, including participation in projects and department activities
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
  • Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, taking ownership of assignments, and supporting team performance and improvement efforts
  • Provide patient and family education under RN direction and respond to emergent situations as appropriate

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • One of the following:

  • Two years of healthcare experience

  • One year of healthcare experience and enrollment in a PT, OT, PA, or related healthcare program with at least one completed clinical rotation

  • One year of healthcare experience and a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field

  • Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician Senior training

  • Completion of basic information systems training

  • Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course with ongoing annual competency

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Completion of an annual professional contribution (assigned after hire

  • May transport medications between departments; limited to transport only

Licensure/Certification/Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR within 30 days of hire

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
