With views all the way to the Pacific Ocean and an hour from Los Angeles International Airport, RRPFI's Simi Valley campus sits on 400 acres atop a hill, serves as the final resting place of America's 40th President and former First Lady Nancy Reagan, displays a chunk of the Berlin Wall, and houses (among other remarkable displayed hardware) the plane President Reagan flew on as Air Force One to 26 countries. Also onsite are the Reagan Center for Public Affairs, the Presidential Learning Center, the Air Force One Pavilion, and the Reagan Leadership Academy.
Job Description
The Ronald Reagan Institute in Washington, DC seeks a full-time Policy Assistant to support initiatives under its Center for Peace Through Strength and Center for Freedom and Democracy.
We are looking for a diligent and detail-oriented individual with strong organizational and communication skills to support a number of programs, projects, publications, and events advancing President Reagan's legacy on foreign and defense policy. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone ready to support program design and development, project management, and general office duties. Experience providing administrative support is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Policy Assistant of will perform a variety of functions in support of the Institute's Center for Peace Through Strength and Center for Freedom and Democracy - including policy project management, program implementation, event coordination, and any additional duties hereafter assigned:
Assist the Policy Director with implementation of the Centers' policy programs and work with internal and external partners to achieve objectives.
Support the policy and programs teams in the planning and execution of major convenings, such as the Reagan National Defense Forum, the National Security Innovation Base Summit, as well as smaller policy events and private roundtables.
Coordinate event logistics including scheduling, database support, speaker preparation, and participant communications.
Help manage work related to the Centers' policy products, such as the Institute's National Security Innovation Base Report Card.
Conduct outreach to key stakeholders across the policy community, including Congress, Executive Branch, military, and the private sector, to advance the Centers' policy work.
Support student programs, including the National Defense Fellowship and Peace Through Strength Boot Camp.
Assist with digital and written correspondence and communications efforts, such as event invitations, email campaigns, press releases, and publications.
Support multimedia engagement by scheduling podcasts, preparing background research, and reviewing social media posts.
Provide research and analytical support to the Policy Director, to include drafting memos, op-eds, and remarks.
Support broader Institute events, sometimes in the evenings, on weekends, and holidays.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Passion for foreign and defense policy as well as President Reagan's legacy.
Ability to collaborate collegially within and across teams.
Strong work ethic as well as time management and problem-solving skills.
Keen attention to detail, an eye for accuracy, and a commitment to excellence.
Ability to function at a high level in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.
Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule, to include some evenings and weekends.
Proficiency in Microsoft and Google suites, Airtable, and Canva or similar programs.
Reporting Relationships
This position will report to the Policy Director, who leads the Center for Peace Through Strength and Center for Freedom and Democracy.
Salary/Benefits/Job Location
This is an exempt full-time position, located at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute in Washington, DC
Though remote candidates will not be considered, limited telework options are available to employees in accordance with Institute policies and approval of direct supervisor.
