The Merton Community School District is seeking a full-time (health benefit or cash in lieu eligible) special education instructional assistant for the 2026-27 School Year. This position is at the Primary School with work hours from 8:30am-4:15pm. We are seeking passionate individuals who collaborates with others, accepts feedback/coaching, and has an unwavering commitment to excellence. Crisis Prevention Training will be required on August 24, 2026. Interviews are scheduled for Monday, July 6th.

Merton Primary School is a vibrant school of approximately 530 students specifically designed to cater to the academic, social, and emotional development of young learners ranging from early childhood/four-year-old kindergarten to fourth grade. Merton Primary is more than just a school; it''s a nurturing environment where children learn, grow, and form the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

Responsibilities:

Special education instructional assistants work under the direction of a special education teacher(s) providing support services to students with disabilities. Depending upon student needs, support services may be provided to an individual student or to small groups of students within the general education classroom, special education classroom or other school environments. These services may include: assistance with completing classroom assignments/activities, potential bathrooming/feeding, assistance with study skills, oral reading of tests, support with the use of organizational systems, supporting positive behavior, and implementation of a behavior management plan. Additional responsibilities may include supporting individual students at arrival and dismissal times, supporting individual students at lunch and recess and providing personal care assistance. Additional duties not specific to working with students with disabilities may be required including cafeteria supervision and playground supervision.
