Position Title: Intensive Needs Teacher - Special Education

Reports to: Principal, Director of Special Education

FLSA: Exempt

Summary of the position: To assist students (specifically those students with intensive needs) in overcoming their emotional problems or to learn appropriate coping techniques so they can function in an educational setting.

Qualifications: Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education. Ability to plan and organize. Skills in human relations. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents. Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.

Supervises: May assist in supervising instructional support personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Acts as a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation team and shares in making eligibility determinations.

Develops appropriate Individualized Education Plans based on accurate and current present levels of academic and functional performance.

Utilizes diagnostic, prescriptive, and precision teaching techniques to help students acquire and maintain grade-level achievement.

Adapts the curriculum of the general education class to the needs of the student based on the needs identified in the Individual Education Plan.

Involves parents and/or guardians in the student's educational program.

Supports students in general education where their present level of functioning appears to dictate potential success.

Communicate with parents, administrators, and other personnel the needs of the students.

Maintains student records and files as appropriate.

Participate in available training designed to prevent and intervene during a crisis.

Performs other reasonably related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services or the building principal.

Other duties as assigned.
