Toddler Assistant Teacher – Full-Time Childcare/Preschool

Location: New Horizons Montessori Academy — Exton, PA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:15 AM–5:15 PM
Compensation: $17–$18 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Start Date: As soon as possible
Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in childcare or an early childhood classroom


About the Position


New Horizons Montessori Academy (NHMA) provides a warm, supportive environment where children develop independence, confidence, and a love of learning through the Montessori approach.


We are seeking a dependable and nurturing Assistant Teacher for our toddler classroom serving children ages 1–2. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the Lead Teacher to provide attentive care and maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom.


Responsibilities

• Assist with lessons, activities, transitions, and daily classroom routines
• Provide nurturing, developmentally appropriate care
• Actively supervise and engage children during learning, play, meals, outdoor activities, and rest periods
• Assist with diapering, toileting, handwashing, feeding, and other personal-care routines
• Support children’s social-emotional development and independence
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom
• Complete required classroom records and daily care documentation

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Minimum 2 years of professional childcare or early childhood classroom experience required
• Toddler experience strongly preferred
• CDA or Early Childhood Education coursework preferred
• Dependable, patient, nurturing, and team-oriented
• Strong attendance, punctuality, and professional communication
• Montessori experience is helpful but not required; training is provided
• Must complete all required Pennsylvania childcare clearances, background checks, physical examination, and TB screening before starting
• Must complete required health and safety, mandated-reporter, and school-provided training

Compensation and Benefits

• $17–$18 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
• NHMA-paid required clearances, physical examination, and TB screening (reimbursed after 90 days)
• Paid breaks: 45 minutes during an 8-hour shift and 30 minutes during a 6-hour shift
• Up to 13 paid days off annually (up to 4 accrued PTO days plus up to 9 additional days through the Holiday Incentive PTO program)

Full-time benefits are available after 90 days. Baby Bonding Leave is available after six months. All benefits are subject to eligibility requirements and school policy.


Schedule and Reliability Expectations


Occasional schedule adjustments, classroom coverage changes, or early release may be necessary based on enrollment, attendance, staffing ratios, and operational needs. Full-time classification does not guarantee exactly 40 paid hours every week.


Dependable attendance, punctuality, teamwork, and reasonable schedule flexibility are essential.


Physical Requirements


Must be able to safely lift and carry children weighing up to 35 pounds, as lifting children is an essential function of this position. Must also be able to sit on the floor, stand, walk, and bend throughout the workday. Applicants must be able to perform these essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
