Fund Accounting Analyst (Michigan, EST Time Zone)


Location: Remote (Michigan residents only – must be located in the Eastern Time Zone)
Compensation: $55,000 - $65,000
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 35 hours/week

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Fund Accounting Analyst to support project funding allocations and journal entry preparation. This role is heavily focused on analyzing project funding deficits, interpreting donor restrictions, and preparing high volumes of journal entries to ensure projects are funded correctly in accordance with donor intent.


Success in this role requires strong accounting fundamentals, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to work with large volumes of financial data while maintaining exceptional accuracy.


Responsibilities



  • Review project funding reports to identify funding deficits across multiple programs.

  • Analyze active projects and hundreds of project subtasks to determine funding needs.

  • Prepare manual journal entries to allocate funding according to donor restrictions.

  • Apply temporarily restricted funding first, followed by unrestricted funding when necessary to eliminate project deficits.

  • Interpret donor agreements to ensure funds are applied appropriately based on donor intent.

  • Prepare and submit journal entries for review.

  • Work with high transaction volumes, preparing up to 1,500 journal entries.

  • Utilize advanced Excel to organize, analyze, and manipulate financial data, including pivot tables.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.

  • Participate in training using provided video resources and internal reporting tools.


Qualifications


Required



  • Strong accounting experience with manual journal entry preparation

  • Thorough understanding of debits and credits

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including working with large datasets and creating pivot tables

  • Ability to interpret financial data and maintain exceptional attention to detail

  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment

  • Must have a personal computer suitable for remote work


Preferred



  • Nonprofit accounting experience

  • Experience with fund accounting or revenue allocation

  • Familiarity with restricted and unrestricted funding

  • Experience interpreting donor restrictions or grant funding requirements
