Scope of Work:

As a Furnace Operator in the Cast House, your scope of work and responsibilities include:

Loading aluminum scrap and pure aluminum ingot into the 80,000lb capacity melting furnace using mobile equipment. You will operate mobile equipment such as Skid Steer Loader, and Diesel Forklifts 9,000lb - 11,000lb capacity at a slow, controlled pace. You will be working with 1,400-degree molten aluminum, operating furnace controls within documented parameters, and clean dross from aluminum and alloy to correct specifications.

Responsibilities:

• 
  
• Load dry materials that are safe to use. (Moisture can cause explosions) 
• 
  
• Estimate material weight to be loaded into the furnace. Do not overfill the Furnace. (80,000 lb. max capacity)
• 
  
• Required to operate a Spectrometer to analyze chemical composition of the aluminum.
• 
  
• Operate Skid Steer loader or Forklift to load scrap into Melting Furnace.
• 
  
• Load scrap onto chutes, push scrap into furnace interior with a forklift equipped with a pushing attachment.
• 
  
• Keep metal clean, skimmed, and thoroughly mixed during each Furnace cycle and remove Dross from full bath, utilizing a forklift with mixing attachment.
• 
  
• Roof and bath Thermocouples are to be kept in good repair and maintain accuracy.
• 
  
• Perform mobile and stationary equipment inspections.
• 
  
• Empty Dross pots as needed, utilizing a forklift. Responsible for maintaining a clean clutter-free work area.
• 
  
• Utilize PPE: Hard hat and face shield, hearing protection, steel-toed boots with metatarsal guards, safety glasses, FR garments, and Hot Mill gloves.
• 
  
• Thoroughly inspect all materials for moisture prior to loading into furnace.
• 
  
• Operate a sow Preheater.
• 
  
• Prepare scrap for loading (dumping boxes, strapping, cutting open bales).
• 
  
• Equipment maintenance.
• 
  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• 
  
• Molten metal working experience, or high temperature process experience preferred.
• 
  
• Industrial Furnace operational experience, preferred.
• 
  
• Skid steer operational experience.
• 
  
• Forklift operational experience.
•
