Compensation: $17.50

FWS Micro Internships are short-term, project-based work assignment completed by a Federal Work Study student with defined deliverables and learning outcomes. These projects are 10 - 40 hours total and are not on-going, operational roles. Selected students will deliver specific outcomes, build professional skills, and support departmental needs in a short-term capacity.

The Columbus Promise department is looking for student support with a media project for July - early August.

Complete a short-term campus summer project and earn $17.50 / hour!

Project Summary

The aim of the internship is to prepare a student to share their story in a public capacity. Over the course of the internship, an intern will develop skills in communication and public speaking in order share their personal story, and the impact of CState, in a clear and professional manner. The skills the student will develop will culminate in a capstone event where they will be featured in a yet to be determined piece of media. With communication being such a vital aspect of most careers, the project should help students develop skills and strengthen their resumes as they make their way toward graduation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Attend trainings for various aspects of public relations
2. Develop skills in written communication
3. Develop skills in public speaking
4. Contribute and star in a media project which celebrates the achievements of the student and highlights the benefits of Promise and CState as a whole.

Deliverables

1. The intern will create a written feature which highlights their journey and how they collaborated with CState to be successful.
2. The intern will speak in public forums to discuss opportunities at the college and how they personally interacted with them.
3. The intern will participate in a media piece wherein they will learn to effectively communicate to a broad audience through digital media.

Minimum/General Qualifications:

This position requires applicants to:

  • Have an Accepted Federal Work Study award as part of their 2025-26 Financial Aid award with Columbus State. View your Financial Aid in CougarWeb Self-Service.
  • Be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program. 
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.
  • Have a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.
  • Have reliable transportation or other means of getting to work regularly.

Students enrolled as Transient, College Credit Plus, Undecided, or otherwise non-degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment.

Schedule:

TBD by the needs of department and student schedule between office hours of Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Maximum 20 hours per week. Project timeframe is 30-40 hours total.
