This part-time position is available for 4-20 hours per week of in-person work at La Verne Parent Participation Preschool. Schedule is flexible (within the hours of Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 12:30pm), in consultation with the Director. Some weekend and evening hours may be available intermittently for special events.

Students must have reliable transportation to and from LVPPP in La Verne.

La Verne Parent Participation Preschool (LVPPP) is a non-profit,

non-discriminatory family organization owned and operated by member families in the co-op tradition.

Our mission is to create a thriving early childhood education program that deeply respects and nurtures the potential that exists in each individual child, teacher, and family. Our unique program provides a strong foundation for learning, and actively engages families and the community to provide a positive and nurturing learning environment for each child.

LVPPP is looking for a Teacher's Aide who can support Teachers in developing curriculum and caring for children, ages 2 through 6. Under the supervision of the Director and in close collaboration with the Teachers, the Aide may provide classroom support, including setting up age-appropriate learning stations and engaging students in educational activities.

The starting pay for this position is $17.00 per hour.

Specific Duties

The Teacher's Aide will report directly to the Director and work closely with the preschool Teachers. All tasks will be performed under the guidance and direction of the Teacher or Director at all times and may include:

  • Supervising children ages 2 to 6 years old and interacting with families in a professional and courteous manner
  • Assisting teachers with creating and facilitating developmentally appropriate curriculum
  • Addressing children's physical, emotional, social and academic needs as appropriate
  • Aiding teachers in documenting children's progress and development
  • Setting up, organizing and cleaning classroom and outdoor spaces to provide a safe learning environment as needed
  • Organizing and managing the school's early childhood library
  • Participating in staff and board meetings and supporting special events as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a current University of La Verne student with Federal Work Study eligibility for the 2026-2027 academic year.
  • Engage with children and their families
  • Employ strong customer service, organization, verbal/written communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Listen carefully, follow directions, and think critically
  • Work collaboratively on a team
  • Maintain a positive attitude and a strong desire to learn

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate demonstrates:

  • Demonstrates some knowledge of early childhood education
  • Desires to learn more about early childhood development
  • Has experience in working with children and families
  • Exhibits creativity and resourcefulness
  • Takes initiative and is a self-starter

Benefits Summary

Employees are eligible for the following benefits:

One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.

University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan - can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.

In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.

Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
