Summary Description:
Under general supervision, manages the day-to-day operations of the routing team, and the entire routing process. Provides leadership and vision for routing unit. Takes responsibility for overall team and individual team member performance. Supervises routing staff and assigns / balances work of the regional teams and the transportation route and program specialist. Manages rotation of leaves, hours, etc. and coordinates all routers scheduling to ensure appropriate routing staff availability. Represents the department at meetings. Develops short and long-range plans to meet current and future needs of all programs while making the best use of available resources. Provides resource projections for proposed program changes. Resolves difficult routing issues and conflicts. Determines when contracted transportation services are necessary to meet student and program needs. Physical Demands: Position requires operation of keyboard device and pointing device for extended periods. Special Requirements: Unusual hours and extensive time demands during Summer and other peak periods.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the local street and road system. Thorough knowledge of routing strategies; knowledge of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software. Thorough understanding of fleet utilization. Thorough understanding of MCPS programs and associated student abilities/needs across programs. Thorough knowledge of program locations and the implications thereof. Considerable ability to maximize use of resources through high level resource shifts. Considerable ability to solve scheduling and resource demand conflicts. Ability to work effectively with program managers and staff of MCPS and private programs. Expertise in balancing demands from multiple customer groups. Ability to manage and lead a team of employees to accomplish program mission. Passing score on the MCPS DOT Routing Skills Assessment. Demonstrated ability to supervise and evaluate staff and implement the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS). Knowledge and application of the six leadership standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP/MCBOA) Professional Growth System (PGS).
Education Training Experience:
Bachelor''s degree from an accredited college or university and considerable progressively responsible experience in the scheduling, routing, inspection and operation of school transportation programs or similar fleet transportation systems. Previous successful experience as a transportation regional router or other similar position desirable. Other combinations of education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Certificate License:Possession of a valid Maryland State Noncommercial Class C driver''s license (or equivalent).
