Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of G3 Success Advisor & Program Developer within the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division. This unique hybrid role combines student success coaching with employer-based program development to support our mission of preparing a skilled regional workforce.

The G3 Success Advisor & Program Developer will collaborate with employers to design high-quality, demand-driven workforce training programs while proactively supporting students from inquiry through completion. This position plays a critical role in expanding partnerships, strengthening program pipelines, and ensuring strong student outcomes across workforce training programs.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

Advisement, Recruitment, Outreach & Registration

  • Support on-campus and virtual recruitment through drop-in advising, information sessions, and referrals.
  • Represent SWCC at community events, career fairs, employer showcases, and high school CTE programs.
  • Deliver presentations to community groups and workforce partners.
  • Collaborate with other division staff, to partner with marketing to develop promotional materials and highlight employer and student success stories.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries, qualify leads, and guide prospects through the enrollment and funding process.
  • Track conversion metrics and assist in improving recruitment and enrollment workflows.

Student Success Coaching

  • Provide pre-enrollment advising on program pathways, expectations, costs, schedules, and funding options.
  • Assist students with onboarding, registration, and orientation to workforce programs.
  • Develop individualized student success plans with goals, milestones, and support strategies.
  • Conduct regular check-ins and connect students to wraparound services (childcare, transportation, tutoring, counseling).
  • Track student engagement, document advising interactions, and coordinate interventions when needed.
  • Assist students with credential completion, exit interviews, and transitions to next-step training or employment.
  • Track student success, employment outcomes, and participation in continuing education programs.

Program Development & Employer Engagement

  • Build and maintain employer relationships in high‑demand sectors (healthcare, manufacturing, IT, transportation, etc.).
  • Conduct discovery meetings to assess employer skill gaps and incumbent‑worker training needs.
  • Co-develop workforce training programs, including curricula, competencies, and learning outcomes.
  • Co-develop and draft MOUs, training proposals, budgets, and scopes of work for employer-sponsored training.
  • In collaboration with Coordinator of Workforce Programs, assist with the logistics for training delivery (instructors, facilities, materials, schedules).
  • Track employer engagement activities, training outcomes, and return on investment.
  • As requested, support grant development and collaborate with regional workforce agencies and economic development organizations.
  • Collect and analyze employer feedback to continuously improve training programs.

Cross-Functional & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain timely, accurate student and employer records in CRM/student systems.
  • Ensure FERPA compliance and adherence to institutional policies.
  • Contribute to program evaluation, reporting, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to remain current on workforce trends and industry credentials.

This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment in this role is contingent upon funding availability and the needs of the College. Position is not eligible for severance benefits under state policy.

Position is located on main campus but will occasionally require travel to off-campus sites and other locations.

A one-year probationary period is required for both new hires and transfers.

  • Proficient in use of technology, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and Google docs;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team;

  • Experience in higher education advising, coaching, or student services.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft, Navigate, or comparable student information systems.

  • Experience with workforce-to-academic pathways and credential progression models.
  • Background in workforce development, employer engagement, or program design.
  • Understanding of regional labor market needs and workforce development ecosystems.
