Galvanizing Yard Material Handler & Overhead Crane Operator

Location: Midland, PA

What a day looks like

Start your shift by reviewing the day’s loads, selecting proper fixtures, and staging steel for galvanizing. You will wire parts to racks, verify chains and hooks are ready, and move material with an overhead bridge crane. Throughout the day, you will enhance quality with paddling and blowing off zinc, keep the yard and work areas clear, and follow all safety procedures. You will also complete an OSHA respirator fit test and remain clean-shaven if needed to ensure a proper seal.

Compensation and schedule

• First shift pay: $17.00 per hour to start, plus overtime
• Second shift pay: $18.00 per hour to start, plus overtime
• Hours: Mon–Fri 6:15 am–2:45 pm and Mon–Fri 2:45 pm–11:15 pm; must be available to work Saturdays when needed

Core responsibilities

• Prepare steel for galvanizing by hanging and staging materials and wiring parts to racks
• Inspect fixtures (chains, hooks) before use and report issues
• Operate the overhead bridge crane in a safe, secure, and productive manner
• Perform paddling and zinc blow-off to improve finish quality
• Screen materials for suitability; report unsafe or inappropriate items
• Inspect and report materials that are rusty, damaged, bent, missing welds, or improperly vented
• Move steel throughout the plant and yard; assist with general housekeeping
• Wear all required PPE and consistently follow facility safety regulations

What you bring

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1+ year in a manufacturing environment
• 1+ year in galvanizing or coatings preferred
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
• Basic math (add and subtract)
• Working knowledge of production hand tools and gauges
• Accurate tape measure reading
• Strong safety mindset; able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs
• Positive communication with coworkers; attention to detail and adherence to work instructions
• Awareness of hazardous substances and basic chemical safety responsibilities
• Ability to recognize and solve practical problems
