Description
Under general supervision, the Garage Attendant performs minor maintenance on motor vehicles and performs other related work as required. The classification is allocated to the General Services Agency, Fleet Division, and the Fire Protection Agency,
VETERANS POINTS: This a trainee/entry level classification, and Veterans Points may apply to eligible candidates.
EDUCATION/BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Incumbents may be eligible for an educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of an Associates, Bachelors, or Masters degree that is not required for the classification. Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill.
The Garage Attendant is represented by the Service Employees international Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
OPENING DATE: Monday, July 20, 2026
CLOSING DATE: Continuous and may close at any time; therefore, the schedule for the remainder of the process will depend upon when we receive a sufficient number of qualified applications to meet business needs.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
Some experience in automotive services which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
The required knowledge, skills and abilities also can be obtained by demonstrated ability to read, write, communicate effectively and work with simple arithmetic calculations, and a work history which has included some minor vehicle maintenance, refueling, or related work.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Working knowledge of: the safe operation of vehicles and equipment; and procedures to maintain simple records.
Working ability to: perform minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment; and establish and maintain effective working relationships.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION - 100%: A un-proctored, online, internet-based, job-related written examination will be conducted to evaluate applicants' knowledge, skills and abilities in relation to motor vehicle operation and safety, following written instructions, and general mathematics. Applicants must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
ELIGIBLE LIST
Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary, Fixed-Term), Intermittent or Extra Help vacancies. There is currently one (1) Regular vacancies within the General Services Agency, Fleet Services.
