As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest.
This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Physical Demands: Incumbent works in areas of uneven terrain. Is required to work from ladders or forklift workbasket to an elevation of 20 feet off the ground. Walking and climbing on steep terrain are required. Frequently carries, pulls, pushes, lifts equipment or parts that weight up to 50 pounds. Physical effort in is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 lbs, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. This requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and open spaces and cramped positions.
Working Conditions: Performs duties outdoors and is exposed to most weather conditions. The weather is often cold, foggy, damp and windy. Subject to poisonous insects, pesticides and other toxic chemicals. The incumbent may be required to work in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty and homeless inhabited. Works in an area of high tourist usage and often serves as an information source for visitors. There is a chance of receiving serious injury such as broken bones, severe cuts, and strained backs unless safety rules are adhered to strictly. Is subject to call out for logistics and other support activities during emergencies. Assists in providing support for all division maintenance activities.
Telework: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
Related non-federal experience or related experience as retired members of the uniformed services may be credited towards computing entitlement to leave accrual, at managerial discretion, providing that experience meets certain criteria. This provision allows new employees to earn annual leave at a higher rate than would otherwise be allowed. (5 Code of Federal Regulations, 630).
