We are seeking Garifuna Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Responsibilities
Provide real-time Garifuna English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
Interpret accurately, impartially, and with cultural sensitivity in immigration and asylum contexts.
Maintain confidentiality under USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
Support both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation needs.
Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance audits.
Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency in Garifuna and English.
2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, community, NGO, or government preferred).
Strong cultural knowledge of Garifuna communities in Central America and the diaspora.
Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality standards.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 security clearance.
