JOB OVERVIEW
• Job Title: Physician – Gastroenterology
• Job Type: Contract / Locum Tenens
• Location: Albuquerque, NM
• Service Setting: Primarily Inpatient Hospital-Based GI Lab
• Coverage Type: Clinical Only
• Coverage Period: Starting 09/14/2026 – Ongoing
• Clinical Shift Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Weekends/Holidays: No weekends; holidays may be required
PATIENT INFORMATION
• Patient Population: Adult Gastroenterology & Hepatology patients
• Procedure Volume: Approximately 8–10 procedures daily
• Case Mix: Predominantly inpatient scopes and GI procedures
• Additional Cases:
- Esophageal food bolus impactions
- Occasional inpatient GI consults
- Hepatology-related procedures

• EMR System: Epic
• Primary Worksite: Main Hospital GI Lab
• Reason for Coverage: Ongoing locum coverage needs
REQUIRED PROCEDURES
• Upper GI Endoscopy
• Foreign Body Removal
• Fulguration of Bleeders (Cautery)
• Banding of Varices
• Esophageal Dilation
• Lower GI Endoscopy
• Sigmoidoscopy
• Colonoscopy
• Colonoscopy with Polyp Excision
• Adult Hepatology procedures
PREFERRED SKILLS
• ERCP experience preferred
• EUS experience preferred
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Board Status: Board Certified or Board Eligible
- BE candidates must obtain certification within 5 years of training completion
• Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred
• Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
• Licensure: Active New Mexico license preferred
• EMR Experience: Epic preferred
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform inpatient GI procedures and endoscopic interventions
• Evaluate and manage adult gastroenterology patients
• Provide occasional inpatient consultative services
• Collaborate with APPs and hospital-based GI team
• Document patient encounters and procedures in Epic EMR
• Maintain quality and safety standards within the GI lab
