Gatehouse Security Officer
Location: Jockey Club – Miami/Biscayne Area

Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour

Position Overview:
SMI Security is currently seeking a sharp, professional, and customer-focused Gatehouse Security Officer to join our team at a residential community in the Miami/Biscayne area.

This position is ideal for an individual who is dependable, detail-oriented, and enjoys working in a customer-facing environment. As the first point of contact for residents, guests, vendors, and visitors, the Gatehouse Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, security, and professional image of the community.

The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills, excellent customer service abilities, and the ability to remain calm and professional while enforcing community access control procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Access Control:
  • Monitor and control access at the gatehouse entry point.
  • Verify identification and authorize entry of residents, guests, contractors, vendors, and visitors.
  • Enforce community access control policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate visitor logs and access records.
  • Report unauthorized access attempts or suspicious activity.

Customer Service:
  • Greet residents and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Provide directions, assistance, and information when appropriate.
  • Maintain positive relationships with residents, guests, management, and staff.
  • Address concerns professionally and escalate issues when necessary.

Security Operations:
  • Monitor property activity and report security concerns promptly.
  • Respond to incidents and follow established security procedures.
  • Observe and report safety hazards, suspicious behavior, and policy violations.
  • Assist emergency responders and management during incidents when required.
  • Maintain situational awareness and vigilance throughout the shift.

Documentation & Reporting:
  • Complete Daily Activity Reports (DARs).
  • Document incidents, visitor activity, and unusual occurrences.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed written reports.
  • Utilize security software, email, and other computer-based systems as required.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Florida Class "D" Security License required.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
  • Previous gatehouse, access control, residential, HOA, condominium, or customer service experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and observation skills.

  • Must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and committed to regular attendance.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully complete all pre-employment screening requirements.

Attendance Expectations:
Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employees are expected to:
  • Report to work on time and prepared for duty.
  • Complete all assigned shifts as scheduled.
  • Notify management promptly of any attendance-related issues.
  • Demonstrate reliability and professionalism in meeting scheduling commitments.

Excessive absenteeism, tardiness, or failure to report to scheduled shifts may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Hiring Requirements:
Candidates must bring the following documents to the interview:
  • Valid Florida Class "D" Security License.
  • Social Security Card.
  • Direct Deposit Form.
  • Valid Photo Identification.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background screening.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screening, if required by client or company policy.
  • Must comply with all company policies, procedures, and client-specific requirements.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to observe and monitor activity continuously throughout the shift.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone or radio.
  • Ability to respond appropriately during emergency situations.
