Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Cloud Network & Security Engineer to design, build, and evolve network infrastructure across a large-scale enterprise technology environment. This individual will play a key technical role in cloud transformation initiatives, with a particular emphasis on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, network security, advanced routing, and automation.
The ideal candidate brings deep traditional networking expertise combined with significant hands-on experience designing and implementing modern cloud and hybrid network environments. This is a senior-level engineering position that will also provide technical leadership, influence architectural decisions, and mentor other engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, engineer, and implement network solutions across GCP, AWS, on-premises, and hybrid cloud environments.
- Design scalable, resilient, and secure GCP networking architectures supporting enterprise applications, infrastructure, and end users.
- Design and manage VPCs, Shared VPCs, subnets, routing, firewall policies, Cloud NAT, Cloud DNS, and private connectivity within GCP.
- Engineer hybrid connectivity utilizing technologies such as Cloud Interconnect, Cloud VPN, and Cloud Router.
- Design and optimize routing solutions utilizing technologies and protocols such as BGP, OSPF, MP-BGP, VXLAN, EVPN, and Geneve.
- Develop and support network security capabilities including firewalls, VPNs, proxies, network access controls, segmentation, and related security technologies.
- Support application delivery technologies including load balancing, content delivery, and traffic management solutions.
- Help automate network provisioning, configuration, deployment, and operational processes across multi-cloud environments.
- Serve as a senior technical resource for complex cloud networking and network security challenges.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to the organization's networking and security capabilities.
- Participate in proofs of concept, lab testing, technical evaluations, and implementation of new technologies.
- Partner with cloud, infrastructure, security, application, and architecture teams to gather requirements and develop appropriate technical solutions.
- Participate throughout the engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture, design, implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and production deployment.
- Work with technology vendors and service providers to evaluate solutions supporting enterprise networking strategies.
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams, engineering standards, implementation documentation, and operational procedures.
- Mentor engineers and help establish and promote technical standards and engineering best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise networking and/or network security engineering, including significant architecture and design responsibilities.
- Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing networking solutions within Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience with GCP VPC networking, Shared VPC, Cloud Router, Cloud Interconnect, Cloud VPN, Cloud NAT, firewall policies, load balancing, and private connectivity.
- Experience integrating GCP environments with on-premises infrastructure and other public cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of networking within large, complex enterprise environments.
- Advanced knowledge of routing technologies and protocols, particularly BGP and OSPF.
- Experience with technologies such as MP-BGP, VXLAN, EVPN, and network overlays/encapsulation.
- Strong knowledge of network security technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, proxies, NAC, and network segmentation.
- Experience with virtual networking, data center networking, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
- Familiarity with application delivery technologies such as load balancers and CDNs.
- Experience working across multi-vendor network environments.
- Strong understanding of network architecture, security, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Experience engineering solutions within environments containing both modern cloud platforms and legacy infrastructure.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues using packet analysis, flow data, monitoring platforms, and other diagnostic tools.
- Strong documentation and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and influence architecture and engineering decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional cloud networking experience within AWS.
- Experience with network and infrastructure automation using Ansible and/or Python.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies such as Terraform.
- Experience designing or implementing enterprise network segmentation and zero-trust networking strategies.
- Experience with packet capture, network telemetry, and flow-monitoring technologies.
- Advanced networking, GCP, or security certifications.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will combine deep traditional networking knowledge with strong GCP cloud networking expertise. They should understand networking from both the infrastructure and cloud-native perspectives rather than relying exclusively on cloud administration experience.
This individual should be comfortable designing complex hybrid connectivity, troubleshooting routing and security issues, and working across GCP, AWS, data center, and enterprise network environments.
The strongest candidates will have hands-on experience building large-scale GCP network environments, understand BGP and enterprise routing at a deep level, and be capable of automating network infrastructure rather than relying exclusively on manual configuration.
