GCP Data Engineer — Denver, CO (Hybrid, 2 days onsite/week)
We are hiring an experienced, hands-on GCP Data Engineer for a contract role based in Denver, CO. This role requires onsite presence 2 days per week — local candidates or those willing to relocate at their own expense only.
This is a senior/expert-level role. We are specifically looking for engineers with real, professional production experience — not bootcamp or self-taught candidates representing themselves as experts. Screening will include a live, unscripted technical discussion; candidates who cannot speak in depth about their own project work will not move forward.
Required (must have hands-on, production experience with all of the following):
- BigQuery — partitioning, clustering, cost/query optimization
- Dataflow (Apache Beam) — batch and streaming pipeline design
- Pub/Sub for event-driven ingestion
- Cloud Composer (Airflow) for orchestration
- IAM, VPC networking, and data security best practices on GCP
- Terraform or equivalent IaC for GCP infrastructure
- SQL and Python at a production engineering level
Interview process (by design, to protect against misrepresented experience):
- Screening questions below (auto-filtered)
- Live video technical interview — camera on, no notes/scripts, real-time problem solving
- Onsite/in-person final round in Denver
Please note: submissions with unverifiable employment history, unwillingness to do a live camera-on technical round, or third-party "consulting" submissions without direct candidate contact will be rejected without review.
