Build precision that supports the operating room
Imagine running a 5-axis VMC in the morning and dialing in a Swiss lathe by night, each part destined for surgical equipment. Your craftsmanship ensures surgeons receive components that fit and function flawlessly.
Your Impact
- Set up and operate a mix of CNC and manual equipment—mills, lathes, grinders—to produce parts that meet rigorous medical device tolerances.
- Control the cut: establish speeds, feeds, and overrides for repeatable, stable cycles.
- Employ controller commands to retrieve data, restart interrupted programs, and handle alarms securely.
- Interpret STERIS engineering prints, apply GD&T, and follow travelers and written processes without deviation.
- Execute in-process and final inspections with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools to verify all dimensions.
- Model safety: wear required PPE, follow procedures, and immediately report hazards or irregularities.
- Maintain a world-class workplace using 5S and Lean; manage tool life and recognize premature insert/tool wear to prevent defects.
- Deliver work on time with uncompromising quality; uphold policies and conduct standards as published in the handbook, bulletin boards, newsletters, and other STERIS communications.
- Mentor peers by assisting with training and sharing best practices.
Must-Haves
- High school diploma or GED (required); technical degree preferred.
- At least two years of machining experience.
- Proficiency setting up and operating CNC and conventional lathes and mills.
- Advanced print reading with GD&T; understanding of production specifications.
- Skilled with precision metrology; strong math capability.
- Quality-driven decision-making; effective communicator and team collaborator.
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions and adapt to changing requirements.
- Willing to work overtime when needed.
- Preferred: working knowledge of Lean (5S, Kanban, Visual Management, waste elimination, root cause analysis).
