Job Description
Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is seeking a detail-oriented Web Developer / Web Accessibility Specialist to join our Office of Strategic Communications / Digital Services team. This position is responsible for assisting in the department s efforts to audit, remediate, and maintain all web content and digital assets across GDOT s online channels to ensure full compliance with the new ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Title II standards, WCAG 2.1 AA/2.2 standards, and Section 508 guidelines.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive expertise with Microsoft SharePoint, strong web development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and experience managing digital accessibility issues in web pages, electronic documents, and embedded media.
Perform comprehensive manual and automated accessibility audits on GDOT public websites, portals, and web applications using tools like Site improve and AccessiBe.
Ensure all web-published digital assets (PDFs, videos, forms, graphics, presentations, photos, and GIS maps[KL1.1]) comply with WCAG 2.1 AA standards and Section 508.
Work closely with content creators, communications team, IT personnel, and third-party vendors to enforce web accessibility best practices.
Manage, maintain, and update web pages and custom components within GDOT s SharePoint environment.
Implement proper ARIA roles, landmarks, and semantic HTML structure within SharePoint pages.
Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, Graphic/Digital Design, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
SharePoint Expertise: Proven hands-on experience managing and developing within Microsoft SharePoint Online and SharePoint Server.
Section 508.
Document Remediation: Knowledge of PDF remediation tools (Adobe Acrobat Pro DC) and accessible document creation in Microsoft Office
High attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical accessibility guidelines to non-technical users.
