Law Degree: Applicants must hold a law degree from a School of Law accredited by the American Bar Association.
Bar Membership: Applicants must also be an active member of the bar, and in good standing. You must be duly licensed, authorized and eligible to practice as an attorney under the laws of a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. Territory. This is a continuing requirement of the position.

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG), an independent component within the Social Security Administration (SSA), is responsible for carrying out the authorities established under the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended (5 U.S.C. 401-424) Within the OIG, the Office of the Counsel to the Inspector General (OCIG) is a comprehensive legal office which provides counsel and advice to the Inspector General and all OIG offices.OCIG provides comprehensive legal advice in areas including contract law, personnel and employment law, fiscal and procurement law, privacy and disclosure law, including handling all OIG Federal records management law, and legislation.
