General Responsibilities Provide general maintenance to City vehicles in support of the operating activities. Read work orders and maintenance forms to ascertain the condition of vehicles and apply maintenance modifications.Diagnose and isolate cause of malfunction in vehicle to be repaired.Interpret and apply information contained in manufacturers' manuals, lube orders and other data relevant to vehicle maintenance.Adjust operating mechanisms such as valves, tappets, carburetors, governors, ignition systems, points, central linkage, clutches and brakes using feeler gauges, dial indicators, special gauges and templates.Time magnetos, distributors, injectors, and injection pumps using timing pins and lights.Replace subassemblies, components and accessories, such as starters, fuel pumps, carburetors, generators, radiators, universal joints, brake shoes, engine mounts, low pressure lines and fittings.Instruct and assist lower‑skilled personnel in maintenance practices and procedures.Operate wrecker or service trucks.Observe all job‑site safety regulations.Work overtime as required.Disassemble and reassemble components such as engines, diff, transmission, pumps, starters, generators, hydraulics and cylinders.Maintain tools and equipment supplied by the City.Perform related duties as assigned.Qualifications High School Diploma or GED.Valid Operator's license.Ability to operate power tools, alignments, wheel balancing machines and engine analyzing machines.Ability to lift over 50 lbs; carry up to 15 lbs.Ability to perform straight pulling, reaching above the shoulder, pushing, walking, standing and kneeling.Ability for rapid mental, muscular coordination simultaneously.Working ability to read and understand operating manuals, service manuals, and written instructions for job duties.Knowledge of basic repair procedures and techniques applicable to vehicle repair.Must have hand tools relevant to this type of repair upon reporting for work.Must pass pre‑employment physical.Work Environment Work is performed primarily in an automotive garage; occasional exposure to outside weather. The incumbent is exposed to constant noise, dust/dirt, asbestos, fumes, smoke, gases, greases, oils, electrical energy, vibrations, and solvents. May work on slippery surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, and in wet conditions. Incumbent works primarily alone and hours are generally specific.#J-18808-Ljbffr
