2nd Shift Position

Pay Progression:

  • Starting Rate: $19.29/hour
  • After 6 Months: $20.67/hour
  • After 1 Year: $22.05/hour
  • Plus $0.75/hour Shift Differential

SUMMARY

The General Bakery Worker (GBW) is a cross-trained production team member responsible for supporting bakery operations in packaging, processing, mixing, and material handling. This role ensures production lines remain supplied with ingredients and packaging materials, accurately tracks production quantities, moves finished products to designated locations, and maintains food safety and quality standards.

Assignments may vary daily based on business needs, and team members must be flexible in supporting different departments and production processes.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Production & Material Handling

  • Supply production lines with required ingredients and packaging materials.
  • Maintain adequate packaging inventory to prevent production interruptions.
  • Move finished product and materials safely throughout the facility.
  • Transport finished product pallets to the warehouse.
  • Return unused materials to the warehouse and ensure they are properly secured and identified.
  • Prepare and attach skid tags and related production documentation.
  • Maintain correct date codes on packaging equipment.
  • Catch, box, and tag products designated for end dump.
  • Weigh and report scrap accurately at the end of each shift.
  • Operate grinders and related equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Use barcode scanners to track lot numbers and support product traceability.

Equipment Operation & Production Support

  • Assist with changeovers, machine setup, sanitation, and equipment cleaning.
  • Support production operations by scaling ingredients, mixing batches, and operating processing and packaging equipment.
  • Relieve other team members during breaks as needed.
  • Submit maintenance work orders when equipment issues are identified.
  • Train and/or assist in training new employees.

Quality & Food Safety

  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety, and quality standards.
  • Perform required quality checks and food safety testing.
  • Complete SPC (Statistical Process Control) computer entries according to established procedures.
  • Read and follow packaging specifications, production schedules, and formula sheets.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and recordkeeping.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work effectively with team members to maintain a productive work environment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Communicate production, quality, or safety concerns to supervision promptly.
  • Work independently while demonstrating accountability for assigned tasks.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and workplace standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The General Bakery Worker reports directly to the Production Supervisor. Performance is measured by productivity, quality, food safety compliance, accuracy, teamwork, and adherence to company standards.

EXPERIENCE

  • Manufacturing or food production experience preferred.
  • Experience operating production equipment and powered industrial trucks is helpful.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions, production schedules, packaging specifications, and formula sheets.
  • Ability to operate Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) and maintain required certification.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety and quality.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Exposure to flour dust, airborne particles, varying temperatures, humidity, and typical food manufacturing conditions.
  • Must be able to safely perform job duties while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
