YMCA Camp Shaver serves New Mexico as an amazing Traditional overnight camp experience. Located in the Jemez Mountains we have been around since 1945 making lasting memories for the lives of our campers and staff. We care about helping people reconnect with the natural world, and hope that you will join us for a summer of lasting friendship and growth.
The General Camp Cook, works with any other kitchen staff to prepare, and serve meals that exceed all governmental and ACA guidelines requirements are enjoyed by campers, staff, and rental groups. Also assists the Camp Director in maintaining quality and safety controls within the dining hall and kitchen areas as set forth by the ACA, FDA, CIS, and the local health
department.
Schedule is Monday-Friday, and weekends as assigned for the season.

Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance and direction for food service at Camp Shaver.
- Facilitate meal preparation for breakfast, lunch and dinner including set-up, serving, clean-up, etc.
- Acts on duties given by Camp Director
- Facilitate group “Hoppers” as needed.
- Ensure cleanliness of the camp food service facilities.
- Have all meals prepared and served according to the current daily schedule.
- Continually conduct inspection each day of kitchen and other lodge facilities.
- Be responsible for conserving energy and supplies throughout the kitchen facility.
- Help monitor inventory of food and food service items, as well as document and plan for future food/supply orders
- Model an attitude of service and readiness to do what is necessary to assure an effective, efficient, safe camp experience for campers and staff.
- Work with the nurse and other kitchen staff to assure that campers with special dietary needs are served appropriate meals.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 21 years of age.
- Interest and ability to learn food service policies and procedures and work with diverse groups of people in a camp setting.
- Possess sound Character.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Ability to acknowledge uncertainty and ask questions.
- Interest, knowledge, and skills in working with food in a children’s camp setting.
