The Ruhlin Company seeks to hire a General Carpenter Foreman-Structural Formwork out of our Sharon Center office.
Summary: Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Company's structural formwork carpenter workforce. This position is primarily responsible for supporting concrete formwork carpentry operations while also assisting with other structural carpenter activities and related work scopes.
Responsibilities:
Cost
- Support project coordination, workforce planning, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance
operational efficiency.
- Develop, document, and communicate best practices to employees.
- Participate in bid reviews for projects with significant carpentry scopes.
- Monitor crew productivity to support accurate bid estimating and production goals.
- Maintain accurate labor cost allocation by charging time to project-specific work and assigning non-project time to Operations Division overhead.
General
- Assist project teams with staffing, equipment, and conflict resolution needs.
- Coordinate the assignment and transfer of structural formwork carpenter personnel based on
workforce requirements, employee skillsets, and project schedules.
- Provide technical guidance and support on concrete forming systems, layout, production
methods, consumable hardware procurement, and carpentry operations.
- Maintain a work environment free of harassment, intimidation, and coercion.
- Promptly communicate employee relations issues, including performance concerns and policy
violations, to the Field Operations Manager.
- Maintain a strong field presence through regular jobsite visits.
- Promote high standards of craftsmanship, quality, and attention to detail across all phases of work.
- Perform hiring, terminations, and layoffs of hourly field carpenter craft.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by the Field Operations Manager.
Safety
- Perform jobsite safety inspections.
- Document and ensure corrective actions are implemented as needed.
- Participate in pre-activity project planning and bring focus to safe means and methods practices.
- Participate in the monitoring of craft and subcontractor compliance with safety program requirements.
- Work closely with project supervision and the Safety Department to address safety concerns in a timely
manner.
Scheduling
- Coordinate with project teams, shop and yard personnel, to help ensure crews have the tools,
equipment, and materials necessary to perform work efficiently.
- Assist with the tracking and utilization of specialty forming equipment and other carpentry-related
assets.
- Assist in the identification of equipment or material shortages and communicate needs in a timely
manner.
- Manage lumber supplies, concrete form system utilization and inventory
levels, including maintenance assessments, and the purchasing of such materials and equipment.
- Oversee pre-fabrication and modification of formwork systems within company shops or on
project sites.

Essential Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of heavy civil construction experience, including concrete formwork and carpenter
operations.
- Strong knowledge of concrete formwork construction for bridge, roadway, industrial, and commercial
projects.
- Strong time management, organizational, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Bluebeam, and HCSS software.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret construction documents.
- Willingness and ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Previous experience directing carpenter craft labor required.
- Team focused mindset to build strong working relationships.
- Broad understanding of construction methods, materials, costing, scheduling, and estimating.
