Position Summary
The General Counsel serves as Slick City Action Park’s internal legal advisor, providing practical legal guidance and support across the organization. This role works closely with executive leadership and department leaders to help the company navigate contracts, compliance requirements, employment-related matters, business risk, and other day-to-day legal needs.
The General Counsel will help review and manage agreements, research legal and regulatory matters, coordinate with outside counsel, support internal policies and compliance initiatives, and provide clear, business-focused guidance to internal stakeholders. In a fast-growing franchise environment, this position requires a hands-on approach — balancing legal expertise with operational practicality to enable efficient decision-making and scalable growth.
This role will oversee franchise legal matters, vendor agreements and contracts, employment-related legal issues, and regulatory compliance while helping establish strong legal processes and governance standards across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1.Corporate Legal Advisory
Provide legal guidance to executive leadership and department leaders regarding general business and operational matters.
Research and interpret federal, state, and local laws and regulations applicable to company operations.
Assist leadership in evaluating legal risks associated with business decisions, policies, and operational practices.
Translate legal requirements into practical and understandable recommendations for non-legal stakeholders.
Research emerging legal issues and provide recommendations as business needs evolve.
2.Franchise & Corporate Governance
Support franchise development activities including Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDD), franchise agreements, renewals, and transfers.
Ensure compliance with federal and state franchise laws and registration requirements.
Advise leadership on governance matters, policies, and corporate structure.
3.Corporate Governance & Business Support
Assist with general corporate governance matters, company policies, and organizational documentation.
Maintain and organize corporate legal records and documentation.
Support business initiatives by researching applicable legal requirements and identifying potential risks.
Assist with licensing, registrations, filings, and other corporate compliance requirements.
Partner with leadership and outside counsel when specialized legal expertise is required.
4.Contract Management & Negotiation
Draft, review, revise, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including vendor agreements, service agreements, confidentiality agreements, consulting agreements, and other business contracts.
Identify contractual risks and recommend appropriate revisions or protections.
Assist business leaders with contract negotiations and interpretation of contractual obligations.
Develop and maintain standard contract templates and legal documents.
Support the development of consistent contract review, approval, execution, and recordkeeping processes.
Track contractual obligations, renewal dates, and other important legal requirements as appropriate.
5.Employment & HR Support
Partner with Human Resources on general employment law and workplace compliance matters.
Provide guidance regarding company policies, employee relations matters, investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations as appropriate.
Review employment-related agreements, policies, releases, and other documentation.
Research federal, state, and local employment requirements affecting company operations.
Assist HR in identifying and addressing potential employment-related legal risks.
6.Risk Management & Compliance
Assist in identifying legal and regulatory risks across company operations.
Develop practical recommendations and processes to reduce organizational risk.
Support company compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Partner with Operations, Human Resources, Finance, Safety, and other departments on compliance-related initiatives.
Assist with insurance, claims, liability, and other risk-related matters as needed.
Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and communicate potential impacts to appropriate stakeholders.
7.Claims, Disputes, & Outside Counsel Management
Assist with claims, disputes, demand letters, regulatory inquiries, and other legal matters.
Coordinate with outside counsel when matters require specialized expertise or litigation support.
Gather documentation and information needed to respond to legal claims, disputes, discovery requests, or regulatory inquiries.
Track the status of legal matters and communicate updates to leadership.
Help evaluate practical resolution strategies while considering legal exposure, cost, and business impact.
Assist with managing outside legal expenses and ensuring outside counsel is used appropriately and efficiently.
8.Policies, Processes & Legal Operations
Develop, review, and maintain company policies and legal procedures.
Create templates, checklists, and processes that improve consistency and efficiency in handling legal matters.
Provide legal and compliance education to managers and internal teams as appropriate.
Maintain organized legal files, contracts, corporate records, and related documentation.
Help establish scalable legal processes that support the continued growth of the organization.
Qualifications
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school required.
Active license to practice law and a member in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Experience:
·5+years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or similar environment preferred.
·Experience supporting Family Entertainment Center, strongly preferred
·Experience supporting franchise, multi-unit, retail, hospitality, or entertainment organizations strongly preferred.
·Background in franchising, commercial contracts, and employment law.
·Experience managing outside counsel and litigation matters.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position. Standard business hours apply, with flexibility required to support business initiatives, negotiations, or urgent legal matters that may arise outside normal hours.
