A General Adjuster plays a crucial role in evaluating insurance claims, often complex and high-value, and determining the insurance company's financial responsibility for property or physical damage. They act as the bridge between policyholders and insurance companies, ensuring claims are handled fairly and within the terms of the insurance policy. In essence, a General Adjuster’s primary objective is to manage the claims process efficiently and fairly, ensuring a proper balance between protecting the insurance company's interests and fulfilling its obligations to policyholders. In addition, the General Adjuster is responsible for safeguarding sensitive information and following company policies designed to maintain SOC 2 security, confidentiality, and data integrity standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Adjust large commercial losses throughout New Jersey and the surrounding states. Will also handle CAT claims and large losses outside of New Jersey during certain events.
  • Investigate residential and commercial Lloyd’s of London insurance claims (complex commercial high-value claims) in a variety of settings.
  • Use knowledge of property and construction, and/or knowledge of the specific industry or business affected, to personally conduct property inspections and photograph claim sites as necessary to depict and substantiate losses or damage, or the lack thereof.
  • Obtain necessary information from the claimant and from experts such as architects, engineers, builders, construction workers, police officers, and others to fully and accurately assess the extent of the loss.
  • Work cooperatively with expert witnesses, attorneys, public adjusters, and carrier’s examiners as needed to conduct investigations, confirm findings, and support evaluations.
  • Apply understanding of insurance policies and policy interpretation, establishing appropriate loss estimates based on all relevant information and findings.
  • Recommend the reasonable and proper amount the insurance company should pay on a claim.
  • Ensure the accuracy of information collected and reported, and guard against fraudulent claims, based on critical issues identified and accurate conclusions drawn.
  • Prepare accurate, clear, thorough, and concise capture reports and letters to insurance carriers on conclusions and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough field notes, journal entries, and time and expense records as required.
  • Manage and train Field Adjuster Trainees:
  • Organize and allocate tasks, ensuring efficient workload distribution and timely completion of assignments.
  • Offer support, mentorship, and training to employees, helping them develop their skills and improve performance.
  • Evaluate employee performance, providing feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Ensure employees adhere to company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Safeguard claimant, policyholder, and company information by following SOC 2 security, confidentiality, and data integrity protocols. Promptly report any potential compliance, security, or data handling concerns.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as needed to support business operations and compliance objectives.
