Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced General Industrial Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on pharmaceutical and life‑sciences construction projects. This role is responsible for supervising construction activities in GMP-regulated environments, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and documentation requirements.
The Superintendent will oversee multidisciplinary work across the following core areas:
- Mechanical / HVAC (Cleanroom & Critical Systems)
- Process Piping (Clean Utilities & Product Systems)
- Sanitary Piping (High-Purity & Hygienic Systems)
- Electrical (Industrial Power, Controls & Instrumentation)
Key Responsibilities by Discipline
1. Mechanical / HVAC (Pharma & Cleanroom Systems)
- Supervise installation of cleanroom HVAC systems, air handling units, HEPA filtration, chillers, boilers, and specialty exhaust systems.
- Ensure compliance with GMP requirements for pressure relationships, air changes, and cleanliness classifications.
- Coordinate HVAC work with architectural cleanroom components and commissioning teams.
- Support system startup, testing, adjustment, and balancing (TAB).
2. Process Piping (Pharmaceutical Utilities)
- Manage installation of process and clean utility piping systems such as WFI, PW, clean steam, compressed air, and process fluids.
- Interpret P&IDs, isometrics, weld maps, and specifications.
- Oversee welding procedures, inspections, pressure testing, flushing, and turnover documentation.
- Coordinate tie-ins and shutdowns within operational pharmaceutical facilities.
3. Sanitary Piping (High-Purity Systems)
- Supervise sanitary and high-purity piping installations using stainless steel systems.
- Ensure compliance with ASME BPE, 3‑A, FDA, and client standards.
- Oversee orbital welding, surface finish requirements, slope, drainability, and cleanliness controls.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and installation to prevent contamination.
4. Electrical (Pharma & Industrial Systems)
- Oversee electrical installations including power distribution, MCCs, VFDs, control panels, and instrumentation.
- Coordinate electrical scope with mechanical, HVAC, and piping systems.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, local codes, and facility standards.
- Support equipment energization, loop checks, and commissioning activities.
General Superintendent Responsibilities
- Lead daily field operations with a strong emphasis on GMP compliance, safety, and quality.
- Coordinate subcontractors, craft labor, inspections, and material deliveries.
- Maintain project schedule and resolve field conflicts across multiple disciplines.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure strict adherence to site safety plans.
- Interface with project management, engineers, quality personnel, and client representatives.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, manpower tracking, and progress documentation.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or life sciences construction, preferably as a superintendent or lead foreman.
- Strong working knowledge of GMP-regulated environments.
- Proven experience with mechanical/HVAC, process piping, sanitary piping, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- OSHA 30 required (or ability to obtain).
- Experience working in active or validated facilities preferred.
