General Labor – Steel Manufacturing Job Description Position Title: General Laborer – Steel Manufacturing Department: Production / Fabrication Reports To: Shift Supervisor / Plant Manager Position Summary The General Laborer in a steel manufacturing facility supports production operations by performing a variety of tasks including material handling, machine assistance, cleaning, and basic assembly or fabrication work. This role helps ensure efficient workflow, maintains a safe environment, and supports skilled machine operators and welders with daily tasks. Key Responsibilities Assist with loading, unloading, and moving raw steel materials and finished products throughout the facility. Operate basic manufacturing equipment such as saws, grinders, drills, or pallet jacks (training provided). Support machine operators by preparing materials, staging workpieces, and monitoring equipment during production. Perform manual tasks such as stacking, bundling, cutting, sorting, or deburring steel components. Inspect materials and finished products for defects and report any issues to supervisors. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sweeping, removing scrap, and disposing of waste metal safely. Follow all safety procedures, including the proper use of PPE (gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, etc.). Assist with general maintenance tasks and routine equipment checks as instructed. Perform other duties as assigned to support production operations. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (preferred). Previous manufacturing, warehouse, or construction experience is an asset but not required. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (lifting 50+ lbs, standing for long periods, working in hot or cold areas). Basic understanding of hand tools and power tools. Strong attention to safety and ability to follow instructions. Willingness to learn and operate machinery with proper training.
